The chassis of the worm gearbox is usually made of cast iron, and only a few heavy-duty gearboxes are made of cast steel. The gearbox shell comprises a box seat and cover, and the split surface passes through the transmission's axis. The holes for mounting the bearings on the casing must be precise to ensure the correct solution of the mutual positions of the gear axes. Bolts connect the box seat and the box cover, and two positioning pins are used to accurately fix the joint work of the box cover and the box seat.
