These problems have seriously affected the reliability and service life of the machine, and its designers began to improve it. This improvement helps them reduce defects, improve the utilization rate of the machine, and improve the technical and economic indicators.
Kt-12a diesel engine
Kt-12a was one of the first skidding machines designed for the Soviet in 1951. On August 15 of that year, the first batch of kt-12 tractors were assembled on the main conveyor in the tractor assembly workshop. The next year, the designer of the factory decided to modernize the machine to improve its functional quality. In order to meet the requirements of the Ministry of forestry of the Soviet Union, the designer decided to extend the warranty period of the machine by 1.5 times. This led to the new design of the 60 HP skidder.
In 1952, the Ministry of forestry of the Soviet Union said that kt-12a tractors could not meet their needs. They ordered a 60 horsepower skidder. This requirement made MTZ management realize that the Soviet forestry department needed a more powerful skidder. They believe that it is not economically feasible to provide a single powerful tractor category for all regions of the country. Therefore, they designed a medium power skidding tractor, which can meet the needs of different regions. In the following years, kt-12a was modified to adapt to the diesel wheeled tractor in Belarus.
Kt-12a with starting engine
Kt-12a with starting engine has a starting rope. The rope is attached to the starting handle 1 and passes through the guide 9 in the starter housing 3. The rope is wound around a rotatably mounted pulley 10. The sheave has a sleeve 5 that is pressed firmly into its center section. Bushing 4 is secured under starter housing 3 with bolts and nuts.
In 1951, the Ministry of forestry of the Soviet Union announced that kt-12a tractor could not meet the requirements of the new policy.
Therefore, the Ministry of forestry decided to scrap kt-12a and develop a new skidder with 60 HP engine. MTZ management is aware of the need for more powerful skidders and considers it uneconomical to produce tractors of the same grade for all regions. Therefore, it designed a medium-sized skidding tractor.
Kt-12a with starting engine includes pulley, rope winding part and meshing device. The pulley is inclined to the recoil direction of the steel wire rope. The pulley is composed of regular polygons and an engaging device, which engages the pulley with the crankshaft at different engaging positions. The recoil engine starter is very efficient when starting the engine.
Kt-12a with electric starting operation

In 1956, MTZ tractor was refitted for rice planting. The hydraulic suspension system is improved. It is fitted with a hydraulic magnifying glass that couples weight and power. The pressure of the hydraulic suspension is increased from 130 kg/cm2 to 160 kg/cm2. Minsk automobile factory modernized the engine and increased the crankshaft speed to 2200 rpm.
After the war, Minsk tractor factory developed a new model. This model was designed by Minsk tractor factory of the Ministry of forestry of the Soviet Union. The design uses the 54 HP diesel engine of Kharkov dt-54 tractor factory. In addition, it has a power shaft at the rear, which can tow farm implements.
